چکیده

Producing a definitive picture of the CO oxidation reaction (CO + O2 ? CO2) on Pt-group metals (Rh, Pd, Pt, and Ru) across the ‘pressure gap’ has proved to be a challenging task. Surface-sensitive techniques amenable to high pressure environments (e.g. PM-IRAS) have sparked a renewed interest in this reaction under realistic pressures. Here, we review recent work in our laboratory examining CO oxidation kinetics on Pt-group single crystals using PM-IRAS, XPS, and mass spectrometry from low (10 –10 3 Torr) to high (1–10 Torr) pressures. These studies have shown that at both low and high pressures (a) Langmuir–Hinshelwood kinetics adequately describe CO oxidation kinetics on Pt-group metals (Pt, Pd, Rh) (i.e. there is no pressure gap) and (b) the most active surface is one with minimal CO coverage. Additionally, recent investigations of high pressure CO oxidation kinetics on SiO2 film supported Rh particles prepared in situ are discussed. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Catalytic oxidation of CO by platinum group metals: from ultrahigh vacuum to elevated pressures

CO oxidation over platinum group metals has been investigated for some eight decades by many researchers and is considered to be the best understood catalytic reaction. Nevertheless, there has been a renewed interest in CO oxidation recently because of its technological importance in pollution control and fuel cells. Removal of COx from automobile exhaust is accomplished by catalytic converters...

Catalytic Performance and Kinetic Study in the Total Oxidation of VOC over Micro/Meso Porous Catalysts

The total oxidation of toluene at a wide temperature range (200–500 oC) over micro/mesoporous platinated catalysts has been investigated about activity, selectivity to CO2 and CO, catalyst's stability versus coke deposition and reaction kinetics. Kinetic of toluene oxidation was measured under various oxygen and toluene pressures and als...

Highly active surfaces for CO oxidation on Rh, Pd, and Pt

Studies show that the rate of CO oxidation on Pt-group metals at temperatures between 450 and 600 K and pressures between 1 and 300 Torr increases markedly with an increase in the O2/CO ratio above 0.5. The catalytic surfaces, formed at discrete O2/CO ratios >0.5, exhibit rates 2–3 orders of magnitude greater than those rates observed for stoichiometric reaction conditions and similar reactant ...

Enhanced Catalytic Activity of Pt-NdFeO3 Nanoparticles Supported on Polyaniline-Chitosan Composite Towards Methanol Electro-Oxidation Reaction

In this work, NdFeO3 nanoparticles were synthesized through a simple co-precipitation method. The formation of NdFeO3 particles was verified by X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer, and transmission electron microscopy analysis. Polyaniline and chitosan were employed as proper support for production of metal nanoparticles. Novel Pt...
